  • welcome josie.

happy birthday to my newest niece, josephine zoe ng lee. i can't wait to see her. one of the initial pics:

at first i thought she looked like my bro, but it seems she has her ma's family's nose. i can't believe i'm an auntie again. it's so crazy, and exciting. oh, and i love how her initials are the same as mine. JL. JL. JL! i love it.

new profile pic courtesy of my sister. i don't even use a mac, but hey, it was a fun photoshoot anyways:

  • i recognize that i'm a little freakish about this whole pedometer thing... but i never have claimed normalcy as a key trait of mine. let's call it a night and log's sunday's steps: 23,030.

  • 8.37 miles today. the further i run, the more difficult it's becoming to retrace my steps. today, it was to adams morgan, down to rock creek park, to georgetown, then along the potomac to the lincoln, down the reflecting pool, and then through downtown to come home. the route:

  • friday's steps: 15,381 = work, baltimore for an o's game, movies

saturday's steps: 32,133 = 8.66 mile run, errands, miscellaneous saturday activities, bars, bars, bars, dancing, dancing, dancing, walking home from dupont circle drunk.

    this is progress!

  • 8.66 miles today. the heat tired me out and i had to stop a few times for water. step count is at about 19,000 right now. i'll log an official number in the morning. it should be interesting to see how many steps dancing puts on this pedometer. i'm not sure where i'm going to wear it though... the route:

  • stepping

step, step, step, step... step in the name of love... i really do like that r. kelly song. as much as i know he's a pervert, i still get down to some of his tunes. here are the stats right now as far as steps taken:

    tuesday: 18,037
    wednesday: 11,937
    today: 12,635

i'm surprised that running doesn't add as many steps as i thought it might.

  • good morning. running on five hours of sleep or less- most times, it stinks. i sit in my office groggy, grumpy... generally unsociable and minimally contributing. but other times, the lack of sleep is worth it, despite the fact i may be lagging a bit. today, it's the latter situation. sometimes you just wake up and you're dirt tired and sleepy, yet i find myself smiling just a little because sometimes the price you pay for fun... it's just worth it.

local 16 for a late dinner last night... i probably won't be having a sit down dinner there again although i'm always up for appetizers and drinks on their rooftop. not that dinner was horrible... i just didn't have my socks knocked off of me.

lastly, i have few musings or introspective ramblings of late. i think i'm just quite satisfied and feeling good about things in general. and that's nice. the end.

  • step by step

5.89 miles. i'm starting to feel like when i run less than six miles, or even less than seven miles, it feels a little like... failure. talk about a glass being half empty, right? but i did a whole helluva lot of stairs today. i climbed up and down this set of stairs behind the lincoln that goes down towards the potomac at least a dozen times. anyways, here was the route today:

(google maps are getting kinda scary man... all the detail is weird.)

also, i've embarked on a little challenge via my b-i-l's work. we've assembled a team and have to track our steps via a pedometer through the next few weeks and the team with the most steps wins a prize... the goal is to take 10,000 steps a day. the competitive side of me wants to log as many steps as i can for the team to bring us to a win. so, for today, thus far, i'm at 18,037 steps. woohoo!

  • slow and steady

my online training tool told me to go for an easy run today, low intensity, 30 minutes of running at a conversation pace. i tried to keep it slow and steady, setting a timer and running for 30 minutes at a leisurely pace and without taking a single break... i zigsagged around town so that i could skip every possible red light and took it slow and steady... and 30 minutes turned into an hour because i couldn't stop running! 8.13 miles. every step felt really good too, so i couldn't help but to keep on thinking while running, slow and steady- in what other ways can i apply this to my life?

slow and steady just might be what runs the race.

  • i'm winding down to
    get
geared up for the week... a full work week. ugh. a quick weekend
recap... i started the weekend early by going out unexpectedly on
thursday night to lima. friday was low key, watching mr. brooks and
having a quick bite at sushi-go-round... i'm not sure if this is the only sushi boat/sushi conveyer belt restaurants in the area... but it sure doesn't compare to seattle's sushi boat joints. not very many options passing by you at sushi-go-round... but the sushi was decent as far as taste and quality goes. saturday night was modern and
georgetown bakery afterwards. and while on the topic of 3am eats... i
miss seattle's hotdog stands but was
thrilled to have found a bagel dog at the bakery. getting eats while
still a little drunken is always the best although i regret it the next
    morning every single
time. and today, errands, lunch at zorbas cafe, cleaning, and now
i'm watching yankees v. red sox.

today's rain was lovely though. i loved simply walking in
the rain while wearing capris and flip flops... it was warm enough to
be dressed lightly, but raining hard enough to require an umbrella and
cause puddles everywhere. i was very much nostalgic about seattle
today, and the entire weekend actually. i was on the phone several
times and text messaging with one of my girls from there quite a bit
this weekend... and i just miss the shenanigans we used to have. last summer was full of so many good times because of her.

    but i guess summer has
officially started once again- memorial day to labor day... three months to bask
in the sun and heat (or warm rain like today...). and while i'm not looking forward to the humidity
of summertime in DC, i am interested in seeing what the summer will
bring me, or rather, what trouble i will find myself in. as well, at
the conclusion of the three summer
months, it will mark one year of being away from seattle. one whole
    year! it's hard to
believe that it has been just one year because leaving seattle and
    saying goodbye to everyone and
everything there seems like quite a bit longer ago. sometimes i still
can't believe i quit work, packed up and said adios. and then even more
surprising, all that drama and chaos that ensued that particular
    decision. c'est la vie.

how true is it though, that saying of the more things change, the more
they stay the same? the more i change, the more i realize some of the
folks from my past will remain exactly the same. i recognize that. but
i also can see that the more things change- like the more my
surroundings change, or the more the people around me change... the
more i stay, or the more my circumstances stay the same. does that make sense at all?

anyhow, welcome, to the month of june.
